Over the weekend, we celebrated Sandhu Uncle’s 50th Birthday.  It was a fantastic bash, with friends and family in attendance.  As our gift to uncle-ji: here is your own online blog!

On Saturday Night, we covered one of the craziest parties ever!  Having covered many Asian events, we really thought we had seen everything!  So when we were booked for this party, we anticipated a few close relatives making an effort, with the rest of the guests in “normal” indian attire!  Boy were we wrong!

Never in a million years could we have imagined Wolverine, Scooby Doo and Batman in the same shot!  We can now!

The surprise event was a joint birthday party, with the 2 birthday boys thinking it was a surprise for the other: an ingenious plan!

The costumes were varied from Cops and Robbers to Britney Spears, and everything in between!

Behind the scenes, Fred Flintstone was the man keeping things together!

Over the weekend I had the privilege to shoot Milan’s 1st Birthday.   As you can see his parents went all out from his outfits to his lovely cake.  In the middle of the event the children’s entertainer took centre stage, I’ll have to admit they do one of the toughest jobs on the planet!  Confronted with several children is way too scary, I think I’ll stay (hidden) behind the camera for now!

Milan was a perfectly behaved birthday boy, despite all the people and the extra attention, not to mention the camera flash.  His sister was a little shy at first, but by the end of day she was smiling in all the pictures. 

The next image is important as it captures 4 generations of the same family.  It’s easy to say, but extremely rare to see.  Hopefully, the image matches the significance!

Milan took to his 1st haircut as cool as you like, something tells me he’s been with Dad before…

After the haircut, he was dressed by his uncle’s and he looked a Prince!

I recently had the pleasure shooting Sharan’s 21st Birthday Party.  It was an intimate party, that was well organised and a lot of fun.

Sharan and her friends were a game bunch which allowed us to get some interesting shots!  I was even more impressed as it was infront of the whole party!  Well done to you girls!

It started off in an conventional manner, but then we then tried a few fun shots.  The results speak for themselves.

The venue had a fantastic wall which was rich earthy red/brown colour (I really should know my colours!).  It was crying out for a portrait! 

 The DJ’s on the night were a good bunch, and played some cool tunes which got the party going.  Gurj even stepped up with a few trademark dance moves!

 All in all, it was a fun night!

We were booked by a close friend of our’s (Rani) for her Dad’s surprise 60th Birthday.  However, with this booking there was a twist:  Rani wanted a slideshow of all the old pictures the family had, including baby pictures which were (that’s right you guessed it!) 60 years old.  Conventional scanning failed, but the trusty canon’s came to the rescue!

In fact, the slideshow went down very well both a “fake” present for Mr B and having the slideshow playing during the party itself.

As the title suggests, it was a surprise party and I have to commend the military like organisation to make it happen.  The waiting was fun providing the opportunity for me to get some candid shots, and capture details. 

It was total mayhem when Mr B arrived, with a simultaneous eruption of cheering, party poppers and the DJ’s sound system!  This was the “money” shot, and thankfully we managed to get it!

It was then on to the cake cutting ceremony before the starters were served.  This allowed us to take some family shots and be creative providing we were quick.

By now it was time to get the party started, and the DJ’s on the night were the best I’ve seen in a long time.  They played a good mix of old and new tunes, with the dancefloor continuously packed.

By the end there were even some magic tricks, (see above for the floating ball of fire).

This was the 1st Event of 2008, and a last minute booking at that! 

The venue was Tycoon, and I have to say it is a challenging place to take shots with an SLR!  It’s dimly lit, ideal for an intimate party,  and for a private meal (as the venue also doubles as restaurant).

 This was a surprise party, and I think it was a “real” surprise!  Due to the layout of the venue, I couldn’t be in front of the door without giving the game away.  However, I managed to capture the reaction! (see above)

This was a joint birthday celebration between Mrs B and her mum, celebrating their 60th and 80th birthdays respectively.

After the formalities of the cake cutting and starters, Mrs B’s friends took to the dancefloor and busted some serious dance moves!  I think the younger generation still have things to learn!

One of the nice aspects of Tycoon, are the details including wall decorations and authentic indian lamps.   These came in handy as backdrops for portraits. 

The crowd consisted of young families, which allowed me to capture some great candid moments throughout the evening. 

It was a successful party to start the year with, with hopefully many more to come!
